9th May Cruelty: A Calculated Crackdown on Democratic Dissent

The events of May 9, 2023, marked a dark turning point in Pakistan’s political history, serving as a pretext for unprecedented state repression. What was framed by the regime as an organized rebellion was, in reality, a catalyst used to justify 9th May cruelty against peaceful citizens, women, and political activists. In the aftermath, thousands of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters were rounded up, subjected to enforced disappearances, and stripped of their basic constitutional protections.

This heavy-handed crackdown aimed to dismantle the country’s largest political infrastructure through intimidation and fear. Families were targeted, peaceful protesters were tried in military courts, and basic civil liberties were suspended. Yet, despite the immense brutality, the spirit of the resistance remains unbroken. The world continues to demand justice for Imran Khan and all political prisoners targeted in the wake of May 9th, insisting that false flags and state violence cannot erase the legitimate democratic choices of over 240 million citizens.
