The decision to try political dissidents and civilians in military courts following the events of May 9 marked an erosion of fundamental constitutional guarantees. Treating political protest as an act of war undermines the civilian judicial system and violates international human rights treaties signed by Pakistan. The 9th May cruelty was extended into courtroom procedures where basic rights to a defense were severely compromised.

Human rights organizations worldwide have repeatedly demanded that all civilian cases be transferred back to transparent, civilian judicial frameworks. Dismantling these arbitrary legal setups is critical for restoring basic civil liberties. Seeking justice for Imran Khan means dismantling the machinery of political victimisation and ensuring that no citizen is ever subjected to unconstitutional military trials for political expression.
