The Mandate Theft: February 8 Elections and the Popular Will

Despite unprecedented pre-poll rigging, the stripping of PTI’s electoral symbol, and the mass incarceration of its leadership, the people of Pakistan delivered a resounding verdict during the general elections. Millions voted for PTI-backed independent candidates, demonstrating overwhelming support for the jailed leader. However, the subsequent altering of election results through manipulated Form 47s represented a direct theft of the public mandate.

This systemic rigging proved that the public remains firmly aligned with Imran Khan despite state-sponsored pressure. The demand to free Imran Khan is inseparable from the demand to respect the authentic vote of the electorate. True stability cannot be achieved on the back of stolen elections; justice for Imran Khan requires restoring the stolen mandate and allowing the genuine representatives of the people to form a government.
